DAPHNE

01.01.18

It's the first post of 2018 and we're looking forward to what this year brings us. However, before we do so, this plant profile is taking me back.

Daphne was my grannies name and when I came across this in the Bristol Botanic Gardens it immediately became a top favourite. From afar, this winter flowering shrub might not stand out from the glossy evergreens, but it's sweet perfume will certainly grab your attention when you walk past. Small, star-shaped flowers on bare branches through winter and ovate green leaves through the summer months make this a fab all-rounder. For larger gardens I'd recommend Daphne bholua 'Jacqueline Postill' which can reach upto 4 meters. For smaller areas or pots; Daphne Ã— transatlantica. Both can be purchased here: https://www.crocus.co.uk
